Sunday winter morning, vroom! All cleaned and ready in my red suite, gearing up for a long drive which I love the most. To the picturesque location hmmm…. Gandipet aka Osman Sagar Lake.
What an awesome drive through the roads of the old Hyderabad to reach the reservoir constructed by the last Nizam of Hyderabad. His Royal Highness Mir Osman Ali Khan, built to protect the city after the Great Musi floods of 1908. By damming the Musi river in 1920, as an additional source of drinking water. OOOf too much into history!
BTW there is a heritage building too, ‘Sagar Mahal’ on the banks of the lake offering wonderful view. Supposedly a summer resort of the last Nizam. Looks like he was a responsible man with great taste!
You can just sit and watch the waters. Clear blue skies and the calmness around add to feel of being serene. The cool gentle breeze that blows here has attracted visitors in the past and does so, today also. Be it summer or winter, Gandipet attracts merry picnickers and holiday makers with their picnic baskets, mats and games.
What a glorious city I am part of, proud to be a Hyderabadi.
